OK-- now to upload photos from the iPad to Picasa web albums. First, poke around in your Google account and find Photos. That's where your Picasa stuff will live. It is often convenient to put photos in albums. You might want to make an album named "Iona". In my case for this project I made an album for blogging from iPad. You can create an album during the process of uploading photos ... Or you can pick an existing album to receive the uploaded photos.

Buy the web albums app from the iPad app store, then add your Picasa (Google) login info to the accounts area. Give it a nickname or alias -- like WebAlbums or something that tells you it's your photos that have been uploaded to Picasa. Or call it something clever like Picasa!

Now the "Home" area of Web Albums will show your Picasa.account, and a tab for Uploads. Let's upload a couple of photos from the iPad. Press the 'Uploads" tab and then tap "Library". If you tap "Camera" you'll get -- surprise -- the camera that's part of your iPad instead of your existing photos on the iPad.

You should see a list of "stuff" like "Camera Roll", "Last Import" and other clumps of photos, maybe date-stamped albums etc. Tap the appropriate album. Then you can select individual photos or "select all" to upload the whole bunch. It'll take some time for them to show up in Picasa online.

In the example below, I've selected two photos for upload - indicated by a little green check mark. When I actually do the upload, the software gives a chance to add descriptive info about each photo. The upload step moves the photos from your iPad to a Picasa web album - that's where Blogger (Blogspot, whatever you call it) will look for the photos to insert into the blog.

---------------------------------------

HOW TO PUT PHOTOS IN YOUR BLOG USING THE IPAD. THERE ARE SOME "ISSUES" DOING THIS VIA IPAD VS VIA PC.

ACHTUNG -- IPAD WILL OBSCURE THE BOTTOM OF YOUR POST SO THAT YOU CAN'T CONTINUE ENTERING TEXT BELOW A CERTAIN LEVEL. SO -- GET *ALL* THE TEXT IN FIRST, THEN ADD PHOTOS!!

When you're entering text into your blog post, you've noticed the icons across the top of the page .. Stuff like "Link" for adding internet links, and a picture icon for inserting image(s). That picture icon is the one that you'll use to insert photos.

START FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE POST AND WORK YOUR WAY UP... Put the cursor where you want the pictures to be then click on the little photo icon next to the word "Link" at the top of the Blogger screen.  If photos from the desired album are already visible you can start selecting picture(s). If no photos are visible, or if you want photos from a different album, tap "From Picasa Web Albums" and then choose the album that you want and eventually the image(s) that you want.

Note: When you do this from a pc with a mouse etc, there is a formatting bar that appears when you click on an image after it has been inserted - to select size and placement (left, center, right) and add a caption. For reasons that elude me, this formatting bar is devilishly difficult to find using the iPad. Sometimes if you tap the image just right it appears, but it's way too frustrating to deal with (IMHO) so it may be easiest to just leave everything default(medium size and centered location).

Getting Started

The photos above were taken on the iPad by pressing the on/off button simultaneously with the button that takes you back to the iPad "Desktop" screen. Claro, ha!
  • The top photo shows how the Picasa app looks on the iPad app store.
  • After the Picasa app is downloaded and installed, you will need to tell the app about your Picasa web albums. The second photo above is a description of the "Home" screen. This is where stuff like your Picasa web albums and Facebook accounts show up.
  • The third photo shows my 'accounts' - William is the nickname that I gave to my Picasa account. You can add your Google picasa login info here - the username and password are the same as for your gmail account. In the photo above, account "William" is my picasa account, and all of the stuff showing on the screen is albums in my picasa account.
Now for some practical how-to of moving photos from the iPad to Picasa, and from Picasa into a blog. A bit of reality here - blogging from the iPad (instead of a more conventional computer) is taxing with text-alone as you already know, and is quite frustrating when trying to add photos. I'll try to come up with some strategies to make it bearable.

On the iPad, the Photos app icon (probably on the bottom of the screen, along with Safari and maybe another app or two) takes you to the photos on the iPad. These can be from your camera as well as those photos taken with the iPad built-in camera.
